Sheffield Cemetery

Sheffield Cemetery is one of the oldest Jewish cemeteries in the Kansas City area.

Jewish Congregations established synagogues in KC throughout the late 1800s. One of those Congregations, Tifereth Israel (Glory of Israel) was established in 1896, and founded this cemetery in 1901. A historical series of congregational mergers evolved into our current Congregation Beth Israel Abraham & Voliner (BIAV) – which owns and runs the Sheffield Cemetery.

The original cemetery was expanded in 1935, with the purchase of 2 ½ additional acres. Since then, the cemetery had space delineated for about 6000 graves; in 2021, that was expanded by over 550 plots when a survey of the mostly-unused east side of the property was completed. Those additional surveyed plots will enable the cemetery to retain its place as an Orthodox Jewish cemetery for the KC Jewish Community for decades.
