Eva Lipner Sokol, President
Eva brings a fast-paced New York sensibility to our community. Before relocating to KC in 2010, she worked as a marketing specialist at Schroders and as an Assistant VP at Legg Mason and Citigroup. Eva earned a Bachelor of Arts in economics from Barnard College of Columbia University and a Master’s in Business Administration in entrepreneurship and change leadership from the New York University Stern School of Business. Currently, she works as a VP of marketing at Tortoise Capital Advisors. She balances a hectic, demanding professional and personal life, which includes a passion for volunteering as well as a loving family of two dynamic daughters and a supportive husband. Eva has embraced our community and has found opportunities to contribute. Eva is actively involved in the growth of Jewish Kansas City and her Congregation, BIAV. At BIAV, prior to her role as President, she served on the Executive Board as the VP of Finance for four years. In addition, she was a board member and active committee participant of both the JCC and HBHA.
Jonathan Schwartzbard, VP Finance
Andy Ernstein, VP House
Currently tasked with maintaining our facilities, Andy has served Congregation BIAV in several roles including, two stints as congregational president. Andy Ernstein is a native Kansas Citian who grew up in several cities, spent a decade after college on the East Coast, and then returned to Kansas City. Andy is father to three amazing and wonderful children.
Lori Noorollah, VP Programming
Debra Arbesman, VP Membership
Debra, and her husband Sam, have been members of BIAV since moving to Kansas City in 2011. Prior to joining the executive board, she volunteered on the chesed committee and served on the board for 4 years. Debra grew up in Detroit, MI and is a proud Michigan Wolverine. In addition to her double BA in organizational studies and psychology, she also earned an MBA in marketing from University of Missouri, Kansas City. Professionally, Debra works as a digital marketer and web analyst. She and her husband are raising 2 wonderful children and enjoy exploring the city with them on the weekends.
Rachel Malamud-Heching, Recording Secretary
Rachel and her husband moved to Overland Park from New York in 2015 after learning about BIAV at the Orthodox Union Communities Fair. Appreciative of the warm welcome her family received and impressed by the dynamic, growing nature of the shul, Rachel felt immediately galvanized to get involved. Prior to joining the executive board, Rachel spearheaded the BIAV “Halachic Post Nup Party” and scholar-in-residence weekend and organized several volunteer events for the community. She also served and continues to serve on the “new baby meals” committee as well as the chesed branch of the programming committee. Rachel is originally from New Jersey but lived in New York for many years. She holds a BA in English from Cornell University and an MA in the Teaching of English from Teachers College, Columbia University. She has taught middle school and high school English and Social Studies for eight years and currently works at the Hyman Brand Hebrew Academy. She is the proud mother of two young kids who constantly keep her on her toes.
Dave Granoff, Treasurer
As Treasurer, Dave is responsible for financial oversight at BIAV. Dave has over 15 years of experience in the commercial and agricultural financing industry. Dave has a Bachelor’s of Science in Finance and an MBA in Finance and Real Estate, both from Rutgers University. Dave and his family relocated to Overland Park from New Jersey in 2009. They have since enjoyed the warm community and Midwest quality of life.
